Spellcasters. They are the bane of warriors everywhere. No matter how good with a sword, a fighter or thief can be brought low by a single spell if he isn't lucky. Luck only goes so far. However, some chose not to accept this status quo. They chose to find the best ways to stop enemies from casting spells, and punish them if they do. Studying the mongoose, famous for its ability to outspeed a striking snake, this mongoose applies the same tactics to fighting spellcasters; striking lightning fast between when the caster starts his spell and when it finishes, like a mongoose striking between a cobra flaring it's hood and striking. In addition, just like the mongoose is resistant to the venom of the snakes it fights, these warriors have trained their resistance to spells.

Role: DPS

Characteristics: Bane to all spellcasters everywhere, the mongoose are adept at combating them.

Class Features

All of the following are class features of the Mongoose.

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A Mongoose is proficient with simple and martial weapons, light and medium armor

Cobra Dodge Ex: The mongoose is a master of prediction. When focused on a single target he can dodge an attack almost before it begins. The mongoose gets a dodge bonus to AC and reflex saves against his Dodge target. This bonus is a +1 at first level and increases by one every three levels thereafter (4th, 7th, 10th and so on).

Staredown Ex: The mongoose may designate one spellcaster (or manifester) within 15 feet, who must also be the mongoose's dodge target. That caster may not cast defensively unless its caster level exceeds the mongoose's Sense Motive bonus. The distance this is usable from increases by 5 feet every 3 levels thereafter (4th, 7th, 10th and so on).

Close the Distance Ex: The mongoose is very proficient at preventing a spellcaster from escaping him. When the mongoose's dodge target casts a spell while 10 feet or less away from the mongoose, a 2nd level or higher mongoose may expend on attack of opportunity from Combat Reflexes to move adjacent to the target. If the character does not have an available attack of opportunity from Combat Reflexes, this ability cannot be used. This movement does not provoke attacks of opportunity and cannot exceed one half of the mongoose's normal movement speed. At 5th level every three levels thereafter, the range the mongoose can use this at increases by an additional 5 feet. After closing the distance, the mongoose can make an attack of opportunity to disrupt spellcasting (this does not count against the normal number of attacks of opportunity granted through Combat Reflexes).

Disruption Ex: The mongoose add his class level to damage when attacking with an attack of opportunity made while the target is casting a spell.

Evasion Ex: At third level a mongoose can avoid even magical and unusual attacks with great agility. If he makes a successful Reflex saving throw against an attack that normally deals half damage on a successful save, he instead takes no damage. Evasion can be used only if the mongoose is wearing light armor or no armor. A helpless mongoose does not gain the benefit of evasion.

Blind-Fight: The mongoose often fights beings that are capable of masking themselves from sight. The mongoose gains Blind-Fight as a bonus feat at 3rd level.

Slippery Mind Ex: This ability represents the mongoose’s ability to wriggle free from magical effects that would otherwise control or compel her. If a mongoose 6th level or higher is affected by an enchantment spell or effect and fails her saving throw, she can attempt it again 1 round later at the same DC. She gets only this one extra chance to succeed on her saving throw.

Spell Riposte Ex: If the dodge target, as chosen by the mongoose, succeeds on a concentration check after previously getting hit by the attack of opportunity from Close the distance or casting on the defensive, and casts a spell, the mongoose gets an additional attack of opportunity against the chosen dodge target.

Mettle Ex: Starting at 9th level, a mongoose's determination allows him to shrug off magical effects that would otherwise harm him. If a mongoose makes a successfully Will or Fortitude save that would normally reduce the spell’s effect (such as a spell with entry Will partial or Fortitude half) he instead negates the effects.

Pinpoint Ex: The mongoose is very good at predicting the location of a spellcaster, even if he cannot see it. If mongoose 9th level or higher is aware of the presence of another creature that he cannot see, he may make a Sense Motive check to determine which square the creature is in. This Sense Motive check is opposed by the target's Move Silently check. On a failure, the mongoose does not locate the creature.

Spell Resistance Ex: At 10th level, the mongoose gains spell resistance equal to 10+Class Level (Mongoose level and Base class level)
